FOSS actively takes part in the development of an OpenFOAM-based software suite for automated shape optimization supported by the continuous adjoint method. Part of the in-house developments at FOSS were incorporated and made publicly available in v1906 and have been enhanced since then (see v1912, v2006, v2112). The software supports the computation of sensitivity maps, which can identify areas with a high optimization potential, and automated shape optimization loops based on a Free Form Deformation technique. A number of the most widely used objective functions, like aerodynamic forces and total pressure losses are available. Integration of the FOSS developments within the official OpenFOAM versions were done in collaboration with OpenCFD.
